Mass marriage function turned into bollywood function

HUBLI,22 MARCH.
A mass marriage organised at Kalghatgi in Dharwad district by MLA Santhosh Lad turned into a function for Bollywood and Sandalwood actors. People had thronged to see their favorite actors. Amidst this, 500 couples tied the knot. A black mark in the function was that some underage girls were also married off.

Looking at the Bollywood and Sandalwood stars sitting here, one might think this is some award ceremony. But this was a mass marriage organised for the poor belonging to various communities. Over 100 stars including Jackie Shroff, Sohail Khan, Sameera Reddy, Jimmy, Sharmila Mandre, Anu Prabhakar, Nisha Kothari, Alka Lamba, Tina, Tanushree Datta, Sonu, Haripriya, Murali, Nagathihalli Chandrashekhar, Subhash Ghai, Reena, Miss UK Lisa Lazarus, Miss Afghanistan Liza Lizaruzi were present at the function.

The mass marriage was organised at Kalghatgi in Dharwad. A shamiyan was set up in 10 acres of a 30 acre ground. Lakhs of people had gathered to have a look at their favorite actors. But the actors who had come down started speaking about their films instead of wishing the newly weds. Sandalwood actor Murali went a step ahead and sang a song as well.

Bollywood’s yesteryear actor Jackie Shroff arrived in a helicopter becoming the centre of attraction. Sandalwood actress Sharmila Mandre was also no less. She advised the newly weds to watch latest flick ‘Swayamvara’. While Sameera Reddy and Sohail Khan entertained the audiences with their short speeches, Miss Afghanistan and Miss London were no less. The Swamiji who was seated next to the hot ladies changed his seat after sometime. Finally after all this, the brides and grooms who were waiting from morning, finally tied the knot. Over 500 couples entered into wedlock in this function. Over 13 underage girls also entered into wedlock here.

More than witnessing the marriage, people were curious to know which actors were present there. Police also resorted to Lathi Charge unable to control the crowd. Former CM of Madhya Pradesh Digvijay Singh who inaugurated the function said this was an unusual function. This was a rare event at Kaghatgi. But was all the pomp and grandeur required when the mass marriage could be organised in a simple way?
